Airello // Ceiling Fan Design
Overview
Airello is a range of premium ceiling fans designed during my time as an industrial design consultant at Story Design. The goal was to create a sleek, contemporary product with a 1200 mm sweep area, tailored for modern Indian homes. Balancing form, function, and manufacturability, the design focused on clean aesthetics, performance, and scalability across multiple variants.
Challenge
How might we elevate the everyday ceiling fan into a refined design object without compromising on cost, performance, or manufacturability?
The ceiling fan market is crowded with functionally capable but visually generic products. The team had to work within tight constraints including standard motor sizes, a blade sweep of 1200 mm, and cost-sensitive components, while crafting a distinct visual identity that could stand out in a saturated market.
Outcome
The final design brought a calm, minimal aesthetic to an often overlooked home appliance. With carefully refined proportions, subtle surface transitions, and a clean form language, Airello stood out as a modern and adaptable ceiling fan suited for a variety of interior spaces. The design was well-received by stakeholders and successfully transitioned into manufacturing with minimal adjustments, maintaining both its visual intent and functional performance.

Role
I was responsible for leading the industrial design direction of the project, from early concept development to final design detailing. My role included market and visual research, concept sketching, 3D modeling, form refinement, CMF strategy, and coordination with the internal team to ensure the design aligned with engineering and manufacturing constraints.

Context
Approach
The project began with design research, trend benchmarking, and a mood board to define the visual direction. I explored form and proportion through sketching, followed by 3D modeling to refine the concept. The blade twist angle was set at around 12 degrees to balance airflow and aesthetics. Renderings were created to present the concept clearly to the client in realistic interior settings.
Solution
The final outcome consisted of three distinct design concepts, each exploring a different visual direction while staying true to the overall minimal and modern aesthetic. All three concepts were developed for production and successfully launched in the market in summer 2024.
