
List&Go // Smart Grocery
Overview
List&Go is an ecosystem that offers a comprehensive app solution tailored to flexitarians aiming to transition to a vegan lifestyle combined with a speculative shopping cart experience to help them navigate through stores. This project was a university project to help us practise the advanced UX methodologies along with speculative design to streamline our process. My inclination towards sustainable design led me towards this topic. We were a team of two designers who filled in the shoes of researchers as well.
Challenge
How might we make meat alternatives more accessible and encourage flexitarians to include them more often in their routine?
Initial Hypothesis: Innovations in the food industry are necessary to develop sustainable and nutrient-rich alternatives to meat in order to address concerns related to food sustainability, nutrition, and quality, resulting from the widespread use of adulteration in meat production to meet the demand of a growing population.
Outcome
In 6 weeks, we created a concept that helps users using nudge theory to make the right choices towards meat alternatives. We also created a service blueprint of a speculative supermarket-store cart service device that would help shoppers to navigate throughout the stores.

The topic was broad, so I made sure we asked the right questions by conducting the user interviews. Due to my interest in sustainable design, I led market analysis to make informed design decisions & assisted in designing the app for its target users with no concrete knowledge around this topic to transition towards veganism.

Discovery
The results pointed out that the lack of knowledge for the alternatives remains a major issue to stay committed to veganism. One of your interviewees expressed a lack of awareness about other plant-based alternatives, which has limited their ability to explore and adopt these alternatives. The areas of opportunity for awareness lies not only at home but also in the store when the user is closest to buying those alternatives.

Approach
We decided to nudge the awareness of the user using nudge theory during several touch-points of making a decision. Nudges can help users to overcome the inertia that often prevents them from making changes to their habits. By making meat alternatives more visible and accessible, nudges can make it easier for the users to choose these products.
Solution
The solution is an ecosystem called ‘List&Go’ . It consists of a grocery shopping app with a smart list(app) and a smart cart (IoT) for in store experience. The app and the in store experience are both nudging touch-points that go hand in hand to make plant based alternatives more accessible & visible. By leveraging the nudge theory, List&Go nudges/ pushes forward the idea of including more plant based ingredients in user’s lives.
Smart List
Based on the first touchpoint, the List&Go experience starts when a person decides to buy groceries.
01 The app is based around a smart list making capability where the users can make their daily grocery list and keep a track of vegan/non-vegan items in the list.
02 The users can also copy recipes directly from the internet and add its ingredients directly to the list through AI capabilities. They can convert non-vegan items by toggling the vegan mode.
Smart Cart
The second part of the ecosystem begins when the user goes to the store to buy the groceries. The users can sync-up their apps with the smart shopping carts available outside the stores by scanning QR code. The shopping cart is mobile and self navigates through the store
01 After scanning QR for the sync-up with the app, the shopping cart devices a route and guides you through the aisles of the store in AR-view.
02 User can self-checkout their grocery within the smart cart and make the payment in the app
